So I'm kicking this around in my head, and I'm thinking I'll set it up to run over the course of a weekend. There's a BUNCH of tattoo artist characters, so we could like... have them each host an open RP for their booth at the con as they're around and available. That's probably the most manageable way to go about it. Just like an umbrella of "the con is happening on these dates" and people can do their opens based out of it.
thoughts? Also when would people like to see this? Late feb or some time in march?
feedback pls

I really like the idea of each artist having their booth as an open RP so it’s not so chaotic!
If schedule permits, it’d be cool if the times could be staggered over the days of the convention too, so that it covers different time zones and more people can participate due to varying schedules!
I’m cool with it being in early March!

staggered times and over a weekend + early march definitely works for me!
oocly i work weekends so i can't be available for anything until after 10-11pm central, and icly my artist is a vamp so....as long as he can have his late night booth option LOL
but i'm 10000% into this idea, please and ty

Would the 6th-8th work for people?
Also I was kind of thinking maybe I could do like time slot sign-ups? That way we cover our bases.

As far as I know, that works for me! Since I'll only be able to fully participate on Sunday, I have the 8th reserved for this!
I think time slot sign-ups would be good too! Might be nice to even put out a 'program' of sorts for people to preview? Like who's hosting an open RP when. That might help people figure out what they're free to join, or if possible, change things a touch to get to a certain open RP?

I'd love to throw a character in but my husband gonna be off work that week so it'll be quality time-time... I think I'll still try but no promises.
Also just as a thought, it would be a good thing for anyone who's character might be a model... like tattoo models are definitely things... or photographers...
I'm not locked in to those dates! Would the 13th-15th work okay for people?
And those are great points, Scuz. Definitely opportunities for people beyond the tattoo artists themselves!

I'll go with those dates and try to put together a skeleton schedule that people can sign up for to host opens.
So far my ideas are:
- Artist booths
- Prom style photography (maybe I might do some freebie sketches for this)
- maybe like karaoke or something in one of the side rooms???
Any other ideas for mini events within the con?? I want it to be more than just meeting and greeting artists.

Conventions usually host competitions as well. I'm not sure how this would translate to role play, the only thing I can think of is maybe... describing a tattoo with prose and having people vote on it, no images since some of us don't have the chops to draw it... or maybe rolling dice? Also more traditional styles of art (painting, airbrushing, sculpture, photography and so on) are often featured in exhibitions, freak-show "tattooed man/woman" exhibitions for the history flair, there might be sales booths for merch or record companies, bands might play concerts... or you might have go-go dancers spread around, fire spitters, contortionists and carnival acts... It's meant to entertain as well as display artists.
I don't know if this helps but, from conventions I've gone to, these are some ideas I can shamelessly loot.
Summarized Ideas:
- Body Painting Competition Shenanigans
- Tattoo Competion
- Freakshow Exhibition
-Gogo Dancers
-Concerts
-Gallery Exhibitions
-Firedancers/Contortionists/Dark Circus Acts
-Merch Booths
These are all incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for weighing in! I've done lots of cons, but never a tattoo convention.
