I made a sliding scale of my characters from Most to Least Wholesome as a joke, but realized this would be a great exercise for folks to gush about their characters! Who is your most selfless sweetheart? Your cruelest narcissist? Where do you place them and why? This can be for NV specific characters or all of them. I want to hear about your creations.


NV Specific
Big Rig
Shy awkward giant who would literally refuse to harm a fly. Loves flowers.
Loves all animals, even the ones that try to bite him. Gives incredible hugs.

Dhoruba
Wants to help everyone ever, and seemed to think becoming a cop was a good way to do that.
Treats his dog like a baby. Probably treats your dog like a baby. Closet comic nerd.

Andronicus
Chill metalhead who supports the local music scene. Low-key defender of the environment. (#FaunThings)
Lives to play pranks, though they are almost always harmless. Not afraid to throw down.

Yaz
SHE WILL EAT YOUR TEETH. Needs to fight, hates to lose. Instinctively bloodthirsty.
Redeeming quality: viciousness can be used to defend. Mostly self-centered, but protective of inner circle.

I'm just listing my active characters.

Kenzi - She swears a lot and it a bit rough around the edges but she has a good heart and golden intentions. The messiah of mobile home living, Kenzi does her best to be a good humanitarian. BUT DON'T YOU DARE BRING IT UP!

Grady- Staunch protector of anyone who needs it, yet she doesn't go looking to protect. If it comes across her desk, sure. She is just here in hopes that a good time is had for all.

Cara - Fairly neutral, polite enough despite her mean girls vibe and indisciminate promiscuity. She doesn't respect monogamy and makes poor decisions, but aspires to be a police officer. Maybe it balances out.

Ren- Calculative and manipulative when something she wants is on the line. Ren can sweet talk a man right out of his watch, vacation home, and marriage. Her bird kleptomania manifests in a weird way which has been responsible for the destruction of more than a few lives. If they didn't want to be used, they shouldn't have let themselves be used. Alternatively, her love of artists is an all encompassing trait and to be in the presence of that seems to neutralize her more skeevy traits. She also has soft spots for her siblings, abuse victims and orphans.

Nadia- The Mambo! The magic in her is strong, and so the price tag for her services is high. Nadia doesn't have any need for these things most of the time. She just believes that the forces she calls upon are rare and should be protected with that high price. To give it away for something so useless as paper money or for free would undermine just how special it is. She creates her own economy. Sometimes she might ask for something awful from someone who appears weak, or for something degrading from those who appear strong. You must suffer to survive, after all. How bad do you want it? Mostly, this is just entertainment to the Mambo. She doesn't need your brother's severed hand, but it sure was fun to watch you squirm with the indecision when she asked for it.

Finn - Neutral good. A sweetheart who just wants to finish the next great American novel. He's understanding and kind almost to a fault. Definitely too good for his girlfriend, but lacks the self-confidence to put himself out there due to depression and dysphoria.

Rowan - Neutral good. He's been Through Some Shit but has ultimately settled into middle age nicely. Big brotherly to just about anyone. Great tattoo artist. Chugs respect women juice.

Beau - Chaotic neutral. Struggles with mental illness and addiction, but would give you the shirt off her back to help you if she cares about you and you're in crisis. Despite having rage triggers, largely doesn't want to do harm to anyone. Could never bring herself to kill or cause the death of another person. Literally just a sad baby with terrible parents who wants someone to love her.

Lex - Lawful neutral. Has killed and will kill again, but also runs the only blood bar in the city built wholly on the concept of consent-based feeding. Also runs a support group for supernaturals coping with the loss of their humanity. Does a lot of philanthropy and community outreach with other species and factions.

Lia - Neutral good or Chaotic evil depending on how recently she's shot herself in the head to cope with her crippling depression. Suffers from bouts of amnesia and violence after self-harm, but otherwise is an upstanding member of the community who would do anything she can to heal people and see them thrive. Just wants to make her late parents proud.

Clio - Lawful evil. Half-blood fae Queen who has been through horrific abuse both mundane and supernatural. Hates being touched. Addicted to vampire and demon blood, as well as Glam (a drug made from distilled faerie blood that she gets by having solitary fae killed). Oversees the local Unseelie court and has condemned mortals and fae alike to terrible fates. Can't parallel park.

My turn! My turn! These are all the chars that I've drug into the NV continuity, even though I haven't played some of them in Open RPs yet.

Bee
Hands down, the most wholesome character that I have. 10000% law abiding, not a mean bone in her body, does what a person of authority says, will take verbal abuse with a smile and cry about it later in private, cries if she accidentally harms an animal even if it was beyond her control, probably won’t even call the cops in situations when she really should!

Harlowe
Trauma surgeon, has magical healing abilities that she would use for others even if it’s at a detriment to herself. She has sass, but it’s harmless. She’ll fix you up, supernatural or not, and won’t ask questions, though she may give you some looks.

Duckie
Law enforcement officer, absolutely wants to help everyone in any way that he can, absolutely near impossible to corrupt. Not as wholesome as he could be because he turns his eyes away from a lot corruption and sort of doesn’t get involved with it. He knows it's there and he picks his battles.

Begonia
Overall fairly wholesome, but she’s of the belief that people really can’t deny the nature of what they are. So you know, if you’re a werewolf, she’s gonna be like - “well, you should be your werewolf self even if that means others are gonna get hurt because you can't help what you are!!!”

Faustin
Probably the most middle of the pack character on this scale because he’s just sort of meh about a lot of things. A vampire going on a blood lust rampage? That’s not his problem nor is it his mess to clean up. He might call the cops, but he won't stick around if he's got places to go and people to see.

Meredith
This one is a messssss. Yes, she does have morals, but that moral compass is a bit wonky and she may still be recovering from it being messed up. In the past, she had been wrapped up with some very, very bad people. She has stayed mum on some of the massively illegal things that they’ve done due to love and loyalty. And when things fell apart, she still kept her mouth shut instead of coming forward with information.

Ruby
Seems wholesome, but really isn’t because of the whole obsessive stalking thing that she has going on. That’s not to say she stalks everyone, but it’s often enough to where she's a character I would consider more higher up on the hellsome scale instead of more towards wholesome side. She also uses information from dreams to get to people IRL, so ya know...

Lian
I feel like nothing more needs to be said other than she’s fae. Ruled by emotions, and probably influenced by the demons and devils she’s been hanging around with most of her life, she’s kinda quick to offend and will act on those impulsive feelings if she feels like she’s been wronged.

Sayre
A devil person, has to do bad things since it's required, but doesn’t really do them willingly. She only does them because she has to and not because she wants to. She’s the unenthusiastic participant in the Hellish Acts Olympics.

Wilhelima
Chaos maker in a big yellow coat. I think a lot of what she does is out of boredom and to have something to do. Yeah, she does a lot of illegal things and does a lot of weird things, but deep down inside, she just wants people to love her and understand her and be her friend. But she'll kill a bitch if needed without hesitation, sooooo....

Oren
He sold his soul to a devil (see below) and has to do what that devil says. I mean, when you’re willing to sell your soul for something, that automatically puts you high up on the hellsome scale.

Henry
Half-devil that revels in taking people’s souls and corrupting them, or making their lives miserable in any hellish way he can. He has a lot of hellish magics at his hand and will use them to do what he wants. He hasn’t been seeking to make people suffer en mass as much as he used to in his younger years, but every once in a while he’ll find someone that just makes him go all a tingle and he has to make them suffer.

Leticia
BAD VIBES! BAD VIBESSSSSS!! She will go out of her way to make your life as miserable as she possibly can. While things might start off mild and have people questioning - “Is she really that bad?” - it can go from 0 to 100 real fucking quick. She’s still very young for her kind, so she feels like she has a lot to prove - especially to her family. Absolutely manipulative, absolutely would get to know you better to hit all the sore spots, absolutely would play dirty, absolutely would torture someone for funsies or for a purpose, absolutely would kill and enjoy and revel in the act fully, absolutely hellsome and at the tippy top of the scale.

Sooo on a sliding scale I’m just going to use 1-10 instead of alignments. 1 being the most goodest good, and 10 being the worst little goblin you ever did see. Here goes: (Note, only using my currently public characters)


Willy- 1, Willy comes from a bad place, but it never had any negative effect on who she is. Seeing cruelty only made the girl want to be all the kinder. The only reason she has really survived this long is having friends who are helpful in keeping her from abuse, neglect and misuse. Her sweet disposition lets anyone in and bears her heart on her sleeve. If someone needs a favor she will be there to help, if a friend or even a stranger is in trouble she will risk herself to help. She dotes on all she cares for, and keeps any sadness or anger inside where it won’t hurt anyone but herself. She may not always succeed in doing good, but she can sleep knowing she tried to help the best she possibly could.

Cue [NV]- 1, Raccoons aren’t really good or evil. Nature can be cruel, nature can eat your chickens, but really she just does what she feels she should be doing. She does what instinct says will keep her alive. Cue has no malicious intent, she won’t bite unless forced to, and won’t seek to do harm unless backed into a corner. She is simple, her life is simple, and she is as nature intended.

Monroe [NV]- 2, Yeah, he has his problems, yes, he’s a mess in his own life, but Monroe is also the kind of person who thinks of others first, second, and last. He steps over lines that shouldn’t be crossed because he cares for those he does it for. He protects those he doesn’t know even if it is at the potential expense of his own life, and he lets those with supernatural secrets keep those secrets to themselves. It’s ain’t his business what ya are less ya hurtin’ others. And don’t tell a friggin SOUL, but yes, he takes free cases for the desperate...

Roman- 3, Roman has had a lot of influence in his life that clouds his judgment of right and wrong. The term ‘The road to hell is paved with good intentions,’ applies very much in his circumstance. He wants to do good, he wants to show the world he is a fine young man, but he sometimes falls short. That doesn’t mean he isn't’ a caring, sweet person. He loves his fiancée more than the stars and does everything in his power to be seen as a good man in her eyes.

Aimee [NV]- 4, Aimee wasn’t raised to be good, just the opposite really. But she can’t bring herself to bring harm to others. However being weak willed she hasn’t stopped her family from doing bad things to good people. For this she is complicit, and she carries the guilt of that. And if nobody helps her to grow a spine it is only a matter of time before she succumbs to family pressure and obligation.

Morgan- 5, Morgan isn’t pure, but he also isn’t cruel. He has had to do some things to get buy and really feels no remorse for it. He lies to keep his secrets, and he will not hesitate to protect what is important to him. Despite the fact that he’s far from just your average guy, Morgan is very much ‘average guy adjacent.’

Vera [NV]- 5, While it would be so easy to say Vera is the goodest egg in the carten, that would be a lie, Vera is smack dab in the center at true neutral. She can be spiteful and cruel, or the kindest of creatures in any given situation but being a fae she isn’t really one or the other. She is ruled by her emotions and so is her magic. If she doesn’t think a person is being nice, she may be equally mean to them, even if it’s none of her business, pranking and tricking them until she feels they ‘learned their lesson.’ And for any who are kindly, well she may just go out of her way to see their day, week, or month is the best they’ll ever have. In truth her normal state of mind is kindness, but how far she will go means she isn’t really very ‘good.’

Caelus- 8, While yes, Cae would eat a baby just to see what it tastes like, he’s not really the most evil thing out there. Most of the time he just does what he’s told. He spends a good portion of his time looking for things that he wishes he could have and trying to take them. Those things being people, and what he wants being love. He just wants you to love him as obsessively as he thinks about you... Is that too much to ask?

Arthur [NV]-10, Arthur thinks of himself as a posh undead gentleman. Of course the idea that he performs unholy experiments of living people never changes that view. Everyone ever born is his plaything, a way to feed the twisted curiosity and hunger which has festered inside since before he became a member of the undead. The worst part is he’s smart about it, he knows when to strike and when to leave well enough alone until the night is darkest, and his victim thinks they’re safe.

Miss Hyde [NV]- 10, She chose to turn herself into an unholy abomination, chose to take magic from the flesh of others, chooses to eat children as pot roast, and relishes the screams of men as she eats their hearts. She still fears, but can’t wait for the day she is truly a full blooded monster, when that day comes she will shed all mortal worry.

Servius- 10, Serv is not only evil, unabashed, and more clever than he has any right to be, he’s also selfish. He tends not to give two shits about who doesn’t interest him and obsess about those who do. He doesn’t mind playing the long game to ruin lives, and in fact enjoys the moments of peace which make popping back up and being a menace all the worse. Why doesn’t he just kill people he torments? Because there’s no greater prison than the human mind.
