Hello, and welcome to Hongu!
This is a kitsune-centric roleplaying dream and group with a focus on East Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.) lore. Throughout the forums and the dream I will be using the term "kitsune" as a catch-all term for magical foxes and fox spirits.
Hongu's IC Area
The dream is a world inhabited by all manner of beast, spirit, and demon. Within this world is Hongu, the dream's namesake: a pocket dimension where kitsune dwell in safety. Upon entering IC you will be dropped into Hongu by entrance to the kitsune haven which is designated by a large, red Tori gate. If you explore far enough you will find the exit to the "Outside", where potential dangers and adventures await.

The dream features a massive and growing map, a functioning mini-map, a custom skin and an array of custom patches, and meticulously detailed landscapes for full immersion.
If you can't find the dream, it is always uploaded in FurN by the Bunnylon Fountain!
So, what the heck is a Kitsune?
Kitsune is a Japanese word that translates very literally to "fox" and is one of the better-known creatures from Japanese lore possessing many magical powers such as shape-shifting, control of fire, conjuring and illusion. See also: Kumiho (Korea) and Huli jing (China), both very very similar to Japanese kitsune.
In Japanese culture and folklore, foxes are revered as spirits and messengers of one of the most popularly worshiped Shinto gods, Inari.
Inari Ōkami is the god(dess) of foxes, fertility, rice, tea and Sake, of agriculture and industry, of general prosperity and worldly success, and one of the principal kami of Shinto. As such, many of these things are associated with Kitsune!
In another thread there are plenty of links telling in greater detail of Inari, Kitsune, and their cultural significance. If you're not sure where to start, read the Wikis first!
What's all this talk about elements?
There is no definite source backing kitsune being aligned to different elements ("wind fox", "dark fox", etc.), however it is a very powerful trend among kitsune players for them to!
In Hongu, for the sake of variety and fun, kitsune can align themselves to one or two of 13 elements.
The Elements
Fire, Wind, Earth, Void, Heaven/Celestial, Forest, Time, Music, Mountain, River, Ocean, Spirit, and Thunder.
The element they align to is more of a studied magic they choose to specialize in and that element will greatly influence where a kitsune prefers to live, their personality, and what they draw their power and energy from. For more information on this, head to this thread where each element is detailed!
Kitsune and all other demons and spirits in the dream can have a primary element of any of the 13 listed as well as a secondary or lesser element. However, the secondary mustn't conflict with the primary! (No Fire/River kitsune, please!)
If you choose to give your fox or otherwise an element or two, denote them in your desc with in the following format or similar:
Features in the dream of Hongu...
The Hongu dream boasts handsome and appealing features on the surface-- custom locals, an ornate, animated custom skin, a massive and ever-growing map with a rustic feel, and a handful of beautifully crafted custom patches.
The community of Hongu is still a small one, but steadily growing! The more exposure we get, the more wonderful people we will have to roleplay and experience the growth of Hongu with!
Concept Art for One to Six Tailed Avatars
The Hongu map has been a slow work-in-progress since January 2012, the main map seeing its completion May 2012. Since then, there had been slow work on expanding the Map, reaching out to players, and building a roleplaying community around it.
Hongu's local avatars have also been steadily forthcoming, the release of the one and two tailed avatars seen April 2014 with work on the three and four tailed avatars following.
Looking towards the future!
It is my wish, and hopefully the wish of the community, that Hongu grows and thrives for years to come.
For Hongu to be rich with activity and community involvement and positive morale is our ultimate goal and hopefully one we're always striving to better.
You, as a member of the group and a supporter of the Dream, are an ambassador. Set positive examples and shine Hongu in radiant light! Help us grow and in return, the community will reward you with friendship, companionship, and the mingling of imagination.
