The Net

In 2009, a solar flare of incredible power slams into the Earth. Earth's governments were powerless to stop the damage, but large-scale industrial and scientific corporations were capable of predicting the possibility of this event. To prepare, resources were stockpiled and personnel were gathered so that when the event began, their place in the world would be secured.

The first two years were a complete catastrophe. Between 2009 and 2011, half of the population perished in the ensuing chaos in the first year alone, and most people lost hope of the possibility of life returning to normal. That is, until a giant conglomeration of corporate super-powers resurfaced from the ashes, using their stockpiled resources and preserved electronics to silence the last of many major national governments and begin to rebuild. The first corporation to complete a recycled city was Beacon United, who chose to resettle on the Eastern American coast line in 2012. Mahattan was torn down and rebuilt from scratch. Completed on May 12th, 2023, the new city was a third the size, but with efficient structures and a focus on ecologically friendly energy, was clean and beautiful.

As the city expanded, Beacon sent scouts west to spread word of a safe haven. All across the Untamed Zone people made the exodus to the East to rebuild what they had lost. Many, however, were not sold on the idea, or were fearful of the sensationalized dystopia so often portrayed in old media about corporate government. Life inside these cities, however, strongly resembled life in the old America. Those that stayed and helped to build and provide for the city entered a New Renaissance, a period of creation and friendship that lasted ten years.

The Reintegration Society was founded by Beacon to adapt newcomers back into a capitalist, organized society. Though its initial success was promising, it became a rumor mill as information from outside and inside the borders mixed. Hanz-Levalier, the European superpower, sent spies to infiltrate and spread the idea of the corporate oligarchy and encourage the revitalization of the American Democracy. The Red, White, and Blue was reborn, and discontent began to rapidly spread.

Soon, the RS became the LUCO Coalition, a revolutionary insurgency fighting for freedom against a nation that was already free. Using Cold War era bunker networks to hide and communicate in secret, they began launching guerilla attacks in what would become known as the Deception War. With Beacon fighting domestic and foreign threats, the new world has become a conflicted, confused place.
