Controlling who can join your group

To access the following settings, go to Your Stuff » Groups, then click the pencil next to the name of your group to begin editing it. You will be taken to the group editing overview page.

Choose "Members," and then click the "Joining and Applications" tab at the top of the page.

Are your members users or characters?

The first decision you have to make is whether your group accepts applications from users, characters or both.

Typically, OOC groups will want to accept applications from users, and strict RP groups will prefer to take applications from characters (so that each character can be evaluated individually, to determine whether it will fit the setting.)

If you'd like to allow approved members of your group to post as any of their characters after they join, check the box "Let approved members post as any of their characters." This setting is most useful for casual RP groups, that require applicants to demonstrate a general understanding of their rules, but don't need to review every character individually before it enters RP.

Invitation Only

If you don't want new members to be able to apply to join without a prior invitation, check the box "Only people who have invitations can apply to join."

Age restriction

To prevent receiving applications from anyone under a certain age, find the dropdown on this page labeled "Age restriction for joining" in the Member Restrictions section. Choose the minimum age that you want to require from the dropdown.

Save your changes.

If you already have members who do not meet your minimum age requirements, a link to remove them will appear underneath this setting after you save.

Creating an application to join your group

To access a group's application settings, go to Your Stuff » Groups, then click the pencil next to the name of your group to begin editing it. You will be taken to the group editing overview page.

Choose "Members," and then click the "Joining and Applications" tab at the top of the page.

Are your members users or characters?

On the Join & Applications Settings page for the group, find the section titled Application Options.

Make sure "Skip the application process for membership?" is set to "No." -- otherwise the following options will not be available.

Using the dropdowns, choose how many "yes" votes it will take to approve an application to join, and how many "no" votes it will take to reject one. Take care that you don't choose a number of required votes that is higher than the number of members in your group that have the "voting" power.

Now, find the section Application Questions, and then find the dropdown "Add item to application." From the dropdown, choose the sort of item you want to add to your group's application: Short answer, long answer, checkbox or instructions.

As soon as you select an item, it will be immediately added to your application. Enter the question or instruction text that you want to be presented to your applicant.

You may drag your application items into any order that you prefer.

If you want to prevent an applicant from leaving a question blank, put a check mark in "Required" beneath the question.

Auto-approving applications to join your group

If you want applicants to be required to submit an application, but you want them to be auto-approved, set "Positive votes needed to accept an application" to 0.

To find this setting, navigate to your group's Joining & Application Settings by going to Your Stuff » Groups, then click the pencil next to the name of your group to begin editing it. You will be taken to the group editing overview page.

Choose "Members," and then click the "Joining and Applications" tab at the top of the page.

Turning off applications to join your group

If you do not want new members to have to submit an application to join, make sure "Skip the application process for membership?" is set to "Yes".

Giving members privileges and ranks within your group

To find this setting, navigate to your group's Joining & Application Settings by going to Your Stuff » Groups, then click the pencil next to the name of your group to begin editing it. You will be taken to the group editing overview page.

Choose "Members," and then click the "Permissions" tab at the top of the page.

Start typing the name of the group member to whom you wish to give additional privileges. Once their name comes up in the search list, select it. Then choose the permission you wish to give them in the "Permission" dropdown. Click go.
