2014 was the first year that Epic Week took the form of an adventure, with a very simple plot told via news posts.
There was no combat in this year, but it introduced the format of solving riddles arranged on an object - in this case, portals.
Before the event began, it was teased with a series of posts about prophets seeing "a trouble the RP Repository has never known before" in signs in the stars.
On April 24th, a strange star appeared in the sky. It streaked across the night and came crashing down in the woods outside of Repository city.
A strange portal grew up out of the ground where it fell. Its center swirled, glowed, and then sealed itself with a ring of stone. Fae and woodland creatures alike fled the woods as the portal's power distorted reality itself.
As the sun peeked over the horizon, the castle awoke to horrified screams. A maid had risen early to begun setting the feasting tables, and discovered nothing but crumbs in the pantry. Guards scrambled to find the culprit, but found instead the parade floats had vanished, the confetti was gone, the presents all stolen!
The kingdom's oracles said that this portal was the fulfillment of their prophecies, and that the lost festivities could be found where the portal led. But who could open it?
When all ten symbols had been solved on the first portal, it opened to reveal the entrance to a gleaming white plane that seemed to stretch into eternity, with no sky or horizon. The only thing that was inside was another portal with ten more symbols.
There was only one single forum topic devoted to Epic Week 2014, where all discussion of all symbols occurred.
Random event hints would appear as users browsed the site, and users would report what they saw in the event topic. Users then worked to collect all of the hints related to each symbol, and to discuss the answers. As there was no combat, there was no limit on when users could approach the portal and attempt to enter a guess.

Building hype
Before the event began, it was teased with a series of posts about prophets seeing "a trouble the RP Repository has never known before" in signs in the stars.
Quote:
Prophets, seers and oracles have been watching the skies in the kingdom of the RP Repository. The signs are now too clear to ignore -- they warn of a shifting in the fabric of reality. A trouble the Repository has never before known is on the horizon.
And yet, there's more to this story. The prophets say that there are also great treasures to be discovered by groups of adventurers that are brave of heart and clever.
Will you rise to meet this moment in history when it arrives?
Epic week begins April 24th...
