When entering the labyrinth, we discovered that it was full of glowing crystals that had strange effects when someone spent time close to them. The most obvious effect was the manifestation of super powers -- but not all the time. Bursts of power would ripple through players randomly as they engaged in combat.
When untrained, the effects that these powers could have were random, but had an equal chance of a bad effect such as hurting the player as it did a good effect, such as allowing the player to deal extra damage or recover some HP.
A super hero came to train us in the use of our super powers, and players could choose which type of super power they wanted to specialize in. This would allow players to choose exactly what effect they wanted to have each time their powers randomly manifested.
Focused Burst
One super powerful strike
Slow Burn
Hit harder for several moves
Regeneration
Regain hitpoints randomly
Super speed
Better dodge for several moves
If you didn't like any of the focuses that the super trainer was offering, there was another option... Doubutt, the famous double-butted horse from the realms of errors and nonsense, was also offering to teach players how to channel their powers. Doubutt offered only one training course: chaos.
Training with Doubutt roughly doubled the strength of the random power manifestations, but maintained the coin-flip chances of the effect being good or bad. If trained in chaos powers, it was even possible to one-shot your own HP from max down to 0 in one bad move.
Despite the fairly good odds of blowing oneself up on a regular basis, chaos powers were among the most popular choice for players.
