2020 was a highly unusual year in that it was the only year that did not utilize Objects with Symbols. There were no trivia riddles, puzzles or collections at all. Instead, a new mechanic was tried: Quests.

The idea behind quests was to address the frequent complaint from many that they "aren't good at trivia" or "no good at puzzles," and to try and create a more accessible experience for more players.

Unfortunately, players who had been expecting the fun of solving riddles were disappointed, and the quests resulted in extremely modest changes in player behavior, so this was the only year so far without riddles.

There were 3 objects of importance. 2 batteries, which needed to be charged through completing specific "quests". There was also an Ancient Gate, which needed to be repaired through adding space scrap items.

Gold Battery

To charge the gold battery, players had to individually complete goals such as "Win the Doubutt game 20 times, writing up their top 3 tips for character design, or writing a RP prompt that is good for a group of three or more characters. Different quests were worth different amounts of charge based on their difficulty.

Quest content could be completed and saved as a draft at any time, but could only be submitted when there were no monsters in front of the battery. Each time a quest was submitted, there was a random dice roll as to whether a new wave of monsters would spawn. With a dozen or more players all scrambling to submit their quests at the same time, this could often mean that the battery was only available to have quests submitted for a matter of seconds before someone would pop the monsters and block quest submission again.

Complicating things further, in the third stage (the worst timeline) where there were cyborg dinosaurs, any cyborg dinosaurs alive at the start of a new combat round (every 5 minutes) would make an attempt to leech power from the battery they were in front of.

Red Battery

To charge the red battery, players had to individually complete goals such as Write out "RPR" or "RP Repository" in an unconventional medium. (Orange peels, newspaper, origami, etc.) Take a nicely lit photo and send it in, Take 2000 damage, Give 5 players kudos, explore 30 times, etc. Different quests were worth different amounts of charge based on their difficulty.

Ancient Gate

Each time we time-traveled, the ancient gate would take some damage and need to be repaired with "Space Scrap." Space Scrap could be obtained via the Doubutt Game or through exploring.

Scrap could only be used to make repairs when there were no monsters in front of the gate. Each time scrap was submitted, there was a random dice roll as to whether a new wave of monsters would spawn and block further scrap submissions.

Complicating things further, in the second and third stages, any Xenobeasts alive at the start of a new combat round (every 5 minutes) would make an attempt to damage the gate.
